How to Choose your Professional Photographer
Answers to the most commonly asked questions on photography.

How do I search for the Professional Photographer?
Our APPA members are experienced professional photographers. A good professional wedding photographer located at Aruba in the Caribbean nows exactly how the different circumstances are, from inside the town hall or church to outdoor on a bright sunny and white beach, a garden or sunset. They know the nicest spots on the island.

How do I narrow down the Professional Photographer Short List?
Examine the photographer’s portfolios. Look for a style of photography that suits your own particular style. Are you looking for traditional classic wedding photography, or do you want a more casual candid approach? Have you considered the photojournalistic style of wedding photography? A good professional wedding photographer is capable of offering all styles.

When do I speak with my Professional Photographer?
You do need to speak to your potential photographer very early on in your planning process. Our professional photographers are often booked up months in advance. You need to secure your photographer as soon as possible. Professional photographers knows exactly the best times of the day and locations when and where to take your pictures.

Film or digital?
The majority of APPA members will use advanced digital camera's which are ideal for post processing and artwork, but on request shooting with film is possible too.

How many wedding photographs should I get?
Depending on the package you choose. But in general with digital camera's the limitations of film are gone, and number of pictures can go from 50 up to 1000 or more.

Who keeps the wedding photography negatives?
APPA professional photographers who use digital cameras will store a copy of your pictures on a CD or DVD, and our clients will get a copy of the same CD / DVD with all the pictures to keep, in order to make a selection and prints in the size they prefer.

Black and white photography?
Some of our clients like some images in black and white, with the latest digital technology it is possible to convert color pictures in to black and white afterwards.

What lighting will the professional photographer use?

Outdoor photographs are usually made with ambient daylight. But especially under bright sunny circumstances Fill-in flash is also used outdoors to remove shadows. Photography indoors normally requires the use of artificial lighting, normally flash. These days on-camera flash units are suitable for most applications.
Choose the time of day with your photography in mind. Choosing your wedding too late in the afternoon could mean that you will have no light for natural ambient light photographs. Ensure that you leave enough time for the daylight photography.

Do I need more then one photographer?
Especially with large events, the number of locations, and the very short space of time, more photographers are involved in covering your event. APPA photographers are experienced in event photography and are able to handle photography on several locations at the same time without a problem.

Should we do the formals before or after the ceremony?
If formal photographs or pictures on the beach are important to you, create some time before the ceremony so that the wedding photographer can take his time in getting posed formal photographs out of the way. If you rely on formal photographs being taken between the ceremony and the reception, this means that the wedding photographer has limited time to get all the formal photography completed.

More coming soon.
